As autumn arrives, squirrels are busy collecting food supplies for the coming winter. Make your own autumn squirrels using our easy DIY guide!
Did you know…
- The UK is home to the original native red squirrel but has since been taken over by the American grey squirrels
- Squirrels have 4 toes which they use for grip and climbing trees
- The position of squirrel’s eyes mean they can see right behind them
- Squirrels can leap around 10 times their body length
- There are around 285 different species of squirrel!

Art materials you will need:
- An egg carton
- Coloured felt – orange, grey and brown
- Glue
- Scissors
- Paints
- Paintbrush
- Googly eyes
To make your Autumn squirrel:
- Cut a section of egg carton carefully and with adult supervision
- Then paint it with your chosen coloured paint for example, grey and leave it to dry
- Cut a face and tail from grey felt, and glue them on.
- Add a light brown nose and googly eyes and you have your first squirrel!
- Why not repeat the process to create a woodland scene filled with squirrels?
Tips:
- Make larger autumn squirrels using yogurt pots!
- Thread the autumn squirrels onto wool and hang them from the ceiling for a jolly autumn display.
