Looking for some Winter activity inspiration to keep children entertained during the holidays? This activity provides you with a simple craft and a fun game that can be played alone to improve hand eye coordination, or as a group to encourage turn taking and refined social skills.
Start by making your snowmen. For this you will need:
- 6 cups (we used paper)
- 2 “snowballs” (we used white polystyrene balls)
- 12 buttons
- Orange and black card
- Scissors
- Glue
Step by step instructions:
- To make your first snowman, take a cup and place it upside down. Then, glue on two buttons for eyes and leave to dry.
- Next cut out a triangular carrot nose from your orange card (children should always be supervised when using scissors). Glue the carrot in place below the two button eyes.
- Finally draw and cut out 4 small circles from the black card. These will act as the coal lumps on the snowman.
- Glue the 4 circles onto the cup to make a smile below the carrot nose.
- Now you have one snowman, simply repeat 5 more times until you have all 6!
Now it’s time to play…
- Set up the snowman cups to form a pyramid, 3 at the bottom, 2 placed on top and one at the very top. (Make sure they are placed on a flat surface for example a table top)
- Give the first player two “snowballs”. The objective is to knock down as many cups as possible with each throw.
- Each player should take it in turns to throw the snowballs
- Keep score of each round. You could play a set number of rounds, for example 3 or 5, and award the overall winner a prize!
