Why not get into the festive spirit with a good old-fashioned puppet show. We have added a simple guide in this blog to create a Christmas elf, a snowman, Father Christmas and Rudolph but feel free to add to this collection with your own festive characters!
Children could use the puppets to create a festive display or scene or even to act our their own story!
To make your Christmas finger puppets you will need:
- Cardboard toilet roll tubes
- A selection of coloured card or paint
- Mini pom poms
- Corrugated card
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Glue
To make a Santa puppet:
- Start by covering the tube with either red card or red paint.
- Cut out a triangle of white card for the beard. Stick it onto the stop of the tube. Next, cut out a face and glue it onto the white card.
- Add googly eyes to the puppet and a nose using a dab of red paint.
- Next, make your Santa hat by cutting out a piece of red card and adding a white card trim. Finish it off with a mini pom pom at the end of the hat!
- Add any extras to your Father Christmas that you like! We went for coat buttons and a belt using more card and paint.
For your elf puppet simply swap the red card for green card or paint!
To make a Rudolph puppet:
- Use your cardboard tube to create the body of the reindeer.
- Cut out two antlers from brown card and stick them to the top of the tube.
- Add two googly eyes and a red pom pom for the nose
- Why not try and add a bit of personality with a funny face!
To make a snowman puppet:
- Cover the tube with white card or white paint.
- Take a sheet of coloured card and cut out a hat. Decorate the hat with sequins or glitter and stick the hat onto the white tube.
- Add googly eyes, a nose (cut from orange card) and a smile.
- Add a scarf using ribbon or card.
